ASTON, PA - Following an impressive march into the CSAC championship bout a year ago, the women’s volleyball squad is picked to finish third this year, according to the recently released coaches’ poll.
The Crimson Eagles capped an impressive regular season a season ago by becoming the first program in school history to advance to a CSAC title contest. The group lost two starters and three seniors from last year’s squad that went 8-3 in league play but added six fresh faces to the mix that combine a unique mix of size and skill.
The reigning CSAC champ, Cabrini College, is favored to repeat once again during the current campaign as the Cavaliers secured all but two of 12 first place votes, collecting 141 points overall. Neumann University was the only other group picked ahead of PBU as the Knights secured the second slot in the tally with 121 total points.
“I’m not surprised that Cabrini is the top vote-getter in the preseason poll,” noted Crimson Eagle head coach Julie Brubaker. “They are a good program and have a strong group of players returning this year.”
PBU finished just two points behind Nuemann, amassing 121 total points along with a solo first place check. Since joining the CSAC two years ago, the Crimson Eagles have lost just four regular season games during their time within the league, going 17-4 overall during the stretch.
“Preseason practices have been pretty competitive and upbeat and I am excited about the newcomers we have joining our squad,” Brubaker continued. “They bring both solid fundamentals and consistency in their play.”
The Crimson Eagles will kick off this year’s campaign at home on Wednesday, September 1st during a date with Arcadia University at 7:00 pm.
