ASTON, PA – The Crimson Eagles have nowhere to go but up according to the 2010 CSAC preseason baseball coaches’ poll.
After going winless during a rocky season that saw PBU finish 0-26 in ‘09, the baseball team will look to change the tide heading into this year’s current campaign. With interim head coach Drew Watson leading the group into their second year in the CSAC, the Crimson Eagles will continue their search for the program’s first ever win within conference play.
The return of 10 core players from a year ago should prove beneficial in PBU’s rebuilding effort, but nonetheless Watson recognizes some of the challenges the lie ahead. “I’m excited about the group of players that we have this year and look forward to seeing how we progress as the season goes on. We have a lot of work ahead of us but I’m pleased with the strides we’ve already made so far during our early season practices.”
Following last year’s conference title, Keystone College was selected as the obvious pre-season favorite to take this year’s crown as well. The Giants received all seven first place votes earning them a perfect 49 points. Keystone is currently ranked 11th nationally in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper’s 2010 NCAA Division III poll.
“It is a great honor to be recognized by our peers and to be picked first in the preseason poll. It is a long season and there are some very good programs in the CSAC, we know it will be a very competitive schedule,” said ninth year head coach, Jamie Shevchik. “Hopefully we can repeat our success from last season and continue to build.”
Gwynedd-Mercy College came in second with 39 points. Conference runner-up, Neumann University, was selected to finish third, earning 32 points. Centenary College (31), Marywood University (22), Immaculata University (15) and Philadelphia Biblical University (8) rounded out the voting.
