PHILADELPHIA, PA - The men's cross country team finished 14th overall out of a 15 team field Saturday during the annual Philly Metro Meet at Belmont Plateau. The women's squad failed to qualify a team score due to not having enough runners.
Without the group's top runner - Jared WIlcox - in uniform, the Crimson Eagles were in an uphill battle against a crop of powerhouse schools that included a handful of NCAA II programs. Nontheless, PBU (353 points) defeated CSAC rival Immaculata University (368 points) during the run and fell just short of 12th place Cabrini College (324 points).
"It was actually a breakout race for several of our runners," head coach Eric Bofinger reflected at the conclusion of the event. "In fact, everyone who ran set a season personal best. And Kyle Fosbenner really stepped it up to help lead us to a strong finish on the men's side."
Fosbenner ended with a time of 31:44 for the Crimson Eagles to place 64th overall. Ian Schock ran to a 78th place finish behind a 32:57 showing and Chanyung Woo added an 81st place finish after collecting a time of 33:09. Carl Ozeck placed 103rd overall, crossing the finish line in 36:25 and Jared Young rounded out PBU's scoring with a time of 39:53.
In women's action, Jen Reifsnyder placed 24th overall out of the field of 177, ending with a mark of 21:41 to finish as the Crimson Eagles' top runner. Ellen Squier added a 33rd place mark after rounding the course in 21:54, and Sarah Hunter manufactured a 67th place finish by posting a 23:15. Joanna Cross was 75th overall, collecting a time of 23:35.
The Crimson Eagles will return to action a week from now when the group runs in the Belmont Classic at Fairmont Park. Competition will begin at noon.
