LANGHORNE, PA – The Department of Athletics is pleased to announce that several Crimson Eagle fall student-athletes have been recognized and honored by the NCCAA. The men’s soccer team, the women’s soccer team, and the women’s volleyball team combined to produce eleven Scholar Athletes and seven All-American selections during the 2009 season as announced by the NCCAA National office.
In men’s soccer, Andy Ecker (Abbotstown, PA), Jake Miller (Chalfont, PA), and Phil Haas (Yardley, PA) were each named to the Second Team All-American squad after leading the Crimson Eagles to 7-11-2 record.
Ecker, a junior goalkeeper, ranked tenth nationally in terms of goals against per contest while posting three shutouts on the year. His 1.89 goals against average marks the third straight season Ecker's anchored a Crimson Eagle defense that has surrendered two goals or less per game.
Haas, a senior forward, ended as PBU’s primary offensive catalyst throughout year, cracking the top 20 nationally by scoring 14 goals on the season. The East Region Player of the year accumulated 32 points on the season to lead PBU in scoring.
Miller, a senior midfielder, got the All-American nod for the first time in his career, proving to be the Crimson Eagles' primary set-up man on the offensive end. A four year starter within the soccer program, Miller registered three goals and eight assists throughout his stint with PBU.
Alexa Hays (Heiloo, Netherlands) and Rachel Brubaker (Shippensburg, PA) were both named Second Team All-Americans following a 5-13-1 campaign from the women's soccer squad.
Hays, a senior forward, was tabbed an All-American for the third time in her career after leading PBU in total goals for the season with seven, a mark also good enough to place Hays in the top 25 nationally. The fourth-year vet finished with seven career hat-tricks to her credit, including two three-goal outings during her final season.
Brubaker, a freshman midfielder, collected Second Team honors following a rookie campaign that saw the Shippensburg native fill the role of distributor. Brubaker ended with two goals and two assists to her credit on the year.
The women’s volleyball team placed two players on the All-American squad, with Betsy Ranck (Leola, PA) generating First Team status for the second time in her career while Kay Lynn Zeiset (Akron, PA) managed Honorable Mention recognition.
Ranck, a senior setter, picked up All-American status following a sixth place finish nationally in assists per game, posting 8.59 helpers per set. The fourth-year veteran also finished third on the team in service aces and fourth in total digs.
Zesiet, a senior libero, placed in the top 25 nationally in digs per outing, registering 3.87 defensive stops per game. Zeiset also contributed 67 aces on the year, good enough to place her second overall on the team.
